How do people not immediately become obsessed with things that are excellent?
I was like writhing in nerdgasmic bliss on the other end of the sofa during the whole viewing, which was like my 10th rewatching and mom just smiled and was like “that was good!” after Sherlock

Totally concur. There’s this sports-related podcast I still listen to because the host occasionally gets entertaining guests, and Chuck Klosterman was on and they talked about how modern serial television has replaced the novel in popular consciousness. Not only in the sense that novel sales are down - though they are - but in the sense that people often go to great lengths not to spoil their friends, and take the narratives so seriously that they’re almost not sure how to have a conversation once it is revealed the person they’re interacting with hasn’t seen whatever they want to talk about yet. Then they do everything in their power to get them up to speed so it can be, you know, a thing they share. Their conclusion was that the kind of people who would have read novels obsessively in previous decades now watch shows like Game of Thrones, etc with the same level of dedication.
Same I think goes for fans of video games with strong stories, fwiw.
Coincidentally this is also how I feel about much of history, but I gave up trying to get my friends into that long ago. Birdemic.
spout history at me any time. Even if...you’re talking about, I’ll still find it...
