In 1987, Cornell University held a conference on the link between the Iroquois’ government and the U.S. Constitution. It was noted that the Iroquois Great Law of Peace “includes ‘freedom of speech, freedom of religion … separation of power in government and checks and balances.”

Saying the U.S. Constitution was limited to one influence is misleading. It drew from a lot of sources, including Sparta, Athens, Rome, England, its own failures (the Articles of Confederation), and yes the Iroquois Confederacy. It was an attempt, as best as any of them could come up with at the time, to blend a host of ideas about government into a system that could hold together based on rule of law.

One thing it certainly wasn’t founded upon is Mosaic Law.

Yeah. It’s getting an expansion this month I’m really excited for.

That said, it’s got a very steep learning curve. That stuff I listed, especially murdering whole families, is… not as easy as I implied. You’re very likely to fuck up and get yourself murdered in retaliation, or simply run out of gold paying assassins. But it is all doable.

There’s also a Game of Thrones mod in development.

Murder your own children just because they’re stupid worse.

Betroth your six year old daughter to an old man and then send her to be “tutored” by him ‘till she comes of age worse.

Execute imprisoned Muslims with no penalty because they’re just heathens worse.

Deliberately train your child up to be an inhuman, scheming,selfish monster, then marry them off into an enemy’s court and watch them wreak havoc worse.

Anger a vassal on purpose to the extent he rebels, crush him, take the land for yourself, and then leave him to rot in your jail until he dies worse.
